When I wrote
this, I did expect a lot of flak. And one particular comment particularly caught my attention. And that was from my good friend Biju. He said and I quote
"and would suggest a small correction.Best actor(male) should go to Darsheel" And trust me I was seriously thinking about it till it so happened that Darsheel refused to accept the Star Screen Award given to him for Best Child Artiste. He has apparently said that he should be nominated in the Best Actor category.
I was shocked to see him do that. Having said that I must admit that I am yet to see a better performance than Darsheel's in a Hindi movie in 2007. But I am not really sure that being hung up on the Best Actor award is the way to go for him. Traditionally this award has been given to grown-up (by biology atleast) male adults. If we go by what Darsheel claims, then we might have to give the best actor (female) during 2005 to the kid who played Michelle in Black.
But there is a point that Darsheel is trying to make that I think we should take notice of and make amends. He is pointing to the fact that Best Actor (male) has taken a subconscious tilt towards the higher age group and ignores the real best performance by a male actor in the industry. Now whether his performance was better than Abhishek's or SRK's or someone else's as nominated in the category is a separate debate altogether. To get there we first need to admit that a Best Actor (male) can actually be a 9 year old. I don't know if the ego of our stars can take so much of a beating!
PS: I for one am willing to give my best actor award to Darsheel. Not because he is throwing tantrums but because I think that I made a mistake to recognize the best. Thanks to Biju too! :)
1. I do agree .He can be nominated but the competition would be toughest .
