Sir, there is a time for everything.
And of all the things that The Good Book refers to, in the cycle of life, nothing seems more important and relevant than the part which goes -"
a Time to Reap, a Time to Heal and a Time to Laugh."
How long has it been?
All the way from
Saat Hindusthani in 1969?
How long does that make, Sir?
A wholesome, fulfilling, worth its weight in gold, an even 40 years?
That is 40 more years of contribution to an art form anyone in the industry can dream of, at this point of time, in the National Mainstream Movie Making?
Its time to sit back and relax.
Remember in 1982, when you got hurt while shooting for Coolie?
The whole Nation, moved around with a prayer on their collective lips for your well-being and an ear cocked for any bit of news that the Radio or the News Daily could give, that would cheer them up a little more than the previous evening.
There was less of cosmetic commercialism and more of care.
Times have changed.
Its 2008 now. From being an icon of a generation's collective frustration and angst, you now stand as an icon of a financial commitment corpus, that has a valued net worth of over Rs.700 crore.
The bottom line, is sadly, that.
The aura of 'invincibility' and the stardust of awe has slowly got clouded and jaded under the financial commitments that have come heaping and grinding over the years, piling on the greenbacks and mercilessly draining you of your real 'Value.'
The last 6 days should be an eye-opener for you, Sir.
It was, surely, for us.
We thought it to be a repeat of the dark days of 1982, but with far-reaching consequences.
Time, unfortunately, this time around, wasn't on our side.
For the rabid and frothing media, you were just more than Breaking News material.
In weighing their options for maximum eyeballs on their respective channels, you stood out and they ran with it.
If it had been an axe-murderer on the loose, they would have gleefully put you on the back burner.
You have been an active participant of this exploding media revolution, Sir, with your blog and you know it.
(What also disturbed us was the fact that you were diligently updating your blogs even at the time of your hospitalization in Nanavati..I have doubts to the veracity of it, but, if it is to honor a financial commitment on your part, to hold good a contract you signed with the Media Company, I stand vindicated of what I said.)
We would rather have you act in One Movie an Year, Sir.
(There is somebody down South who has perfected that to an art. You should surely know him).
We would rather have you involve more in the humanitarian activities that you have enthusiastically supported but never found the time for total commitment.
We would love to have you sit back, put your feet up on that worn easy chair and maybe write a commentary on the legendary Poet's monumental
Madhushala. We would rather have you be around to involve and indulge yourself in everything you have missed.
And that is what we would love to have you doing.
Having the best of everything.
Less the strings attached.
1. So true,So true. The poor guy has been more or less reduced to a machine that has to chug along,to honor his contracts and commitments.Maybe a 100 of these would make him see reason.Alas, but we have just one Big B.
