Ghajini is zooming up,alright, demolishing box-office records faster than 'Mr.Sanjay Singhania' pulverizes the baddies who threw themselves at him.The figures are nothing short of impressive too.

Along with the 8-pack abs of Aamir, here's some other figures/statistics that's worth our awe.

  • Ghajini, with its Christmas Eve debut has grossed around USD 4 Million,OUTSIDE INDIA in the First Weekend.
  • It opened with USD 0.92 Million in the Middle East, the FIRST for any HINDI MOVIE in history.
  • The Indian First Weekend was close to around 58 Crores, including paid-previews.
  • As things stand now,the total net gross is around (ahem..) 110,55,00,000!! (In plainspeak, that would be Rs.110 Crores)
Made with a budget of Rs.45 Crore, sold for Rs.90 Crore, and netting Rs.110 Crore in the first four weeks, well, one can safely assume that Ghajini was the Big One for 2008.

The Acers - Aamir, Aasin, A Murugadoss and AR Rahman managed to pull off the biggest marketing caper in Bollywood for the year of 2008,in spectacular style.

A deafening round of applause, please,Ladies and Gentlemen!

They deserve it.

And now,a word about the adrenaline-packed and testosterone-packaged product called Ghajini.

For all those who are familiar with the "original" original movie called Memento by CHRISTOPHER NOLAN,or the "Indian" original also called Ghajini,in Tamil starring Surya, this steroid version would be a non-starter.
Try as I did to enjoy the movie, the older version kept coming back in scraps and parts and I found myself going back to them more than involving myself with the drama,on-screen.
Ghajini, for yours truly, was a mainstream masala movie, done by Aamir Khan. Period.
The difference was the presence of Aamir Khan,
Well,that changed everything.
All those media feeds about changing the climax of the movie, was meant to invoke curiosity than substance of the movie.
In the end,it felt watered down, and the last half hour was just another avenue for the testosterone crazy Sanjay to 'work ' his way out of Ghajini's den.
Ah..Bollywood.
Asin seem to be present at the right places to say the right words and draw inspiration from the Patron saint of Glycerine to do her emotional bits.
Sadly,that was all there was.
With all due respect,Jiah Khan should be learning acting for another 10 years before she appears in another movie.
Sincerely.

But,for a market audience that seemed to have never heard of a movie in Tamil called Ghajini,
well, this was Aamir at his steroid best.

And they seemed to have liked every single moment of it.

How else would you explain the Rs.110 Crore in four weeks?

Rs.110 Crore is no joke.

Ask Warner Brothers and Akshay Kumar.

Ask them about a project-turned-nightmare called ChandniChowk to China!
