The last time anyone saw Salman in a production that had a semblance of commercial success was Partner.
That was way back in July, 2007.It is almost two years now.

Please don't cringe at the projects he associated himself with in these two years, for whatever valid reasons. To refresh your memory, it ain't much - Marigold, Om Shanti Om (Special appearance in song Deewangi Deewangi), Saawariya, God Tussi Great Ho, Hello ( Special appearance), Heroes and the magnum 'dopus' - Yuvvraaj from Mukta Arts (Mr.Subhash Ghai ) .

After a two -year hiatus of substandard and non-existent inputs to his commercial film career,Salman seems to have put his blood, sweat and tears into this project Wanted - Dead and Alive , the remake of the Telugu hit Pokiri by Puri Jagannadh which was later remade in Tamil by Prabhu Deva. Our 'Rubber Man' wields the megaphone for its Hindi avatar also, starring Salman and Ayesha Takia.

Produced by Boney Kapoor, this is one release that would highlight this September, not for anything else, but for the fact that under the craftsmanship of Prabhu Deva, this time around Sallubhai can't go wrong.

There is so much riding on a successful movie centered around Salman Khan. In an industry where fickle allegiances and trade circles rule the roost, it is imperative that Sallu bhai re-affirms his value as a commercial guarantee at the marquee as 2 years is a long time in Bollywood. A pretty long time.

What also makes this all the more interesting is the relevance of the release timing. Sallu bhai's Wanted will be battling head-on with another comeback act (if you could call that ), from the biggest production house of Bollywood. You see, Rani Mukherji's DIL BOLE HADIPPA, along with Shahid Kapur will be also an Eid Release as the Yash Raj camp is famous for its festive releases. Rani's last worthwhile release was Saawariya in 2007.
Coincidence?
This Eid ,it would be Yash Raj productions versus Boney Kapoor Productions in a direct face-off.Shahid Kapur, basking in the glory of Kaminey's dream run at the box office might inadvertently lend more muscle to the opening collections of
DIL BOLE HADIPPA,which would benefit the commercial value of Rani Mukherjee too.It would even come as a blessing in disguise, even if the story tanks at the cinema.

2009 marks 20 years of Salman Khan in Bollywood. It would be a matter of great joy to have Sallu driving box-offices sky-high doing what he does best, dancing, fighting and a little acting thrown in for good measure.

Two years is a long time to wait for a complete entertainer from Salman Khan.
Here's hoping this Eid would change all that.
